Though we travel the world to find the beautiful

we must carry it with us or we find it not

is capturing the different sky-scapes

Strolling around Lourmarin ........

Lourmarin sits in the heart of Provence
and I would like to say that it is a sleepy little village with residents going about the normal life
but it has become well known amid the tourists trail and now anytime between 11am and 3pm
it is difficult to find a seat in any café or eatery.

The beauty of staying a week or two is that us long stay tourist
get to savour the ambiance of a place by rising early and strolling the deserted laneways
before mingling with the locals in the little boulangerie
carefully selecting a few delicacies for
le-petit-dejeuner

Carrosserie ......

I had to smile when spotting this car shop in the lovely village of Bonnieux
I know the French like to use the suffix ie for a lot of shops
like Patisserie-cremerie-boulangerie and Pharmacie
But to see this quaint business referred to as a Carrossserie
really made my day.

Oh! and wouldn't it be nice to go zipping around Provence in that
cute cherry-red Volkswagon
If only I could get the hang of driving on the opposite side of the road !!

Faded and worn blue shutters fit beautifully upon burnished orange stone walls

As Vincent Van Gogh once said
"There is no blue without orange and without yellow"
I think he was right !!

Meandering the backroads of The Luberon ......

The Luberon area of Provence was made famous by
Peter Mayle's books -  "A Year in Provence" and "A Good Year"

It's just as depicted with clusters of quaint hilltop villages
ideal for walking - or cycling to and from
or getting absolutely lost amid the vineyards and beaten tracks
of this wonderful area of the world

gold - lavender and of course in summer
red from the open fields of poppies
which stretch as far as the eyes can see
I loved it all

Amalfi Coast .......

Early morning  driving south along the beautiful Amalfi Coast
where most of the way we could see nothing but blue!!
blue skies - nothing but blue skies - as the song goes.

The only division between sea and sky was a border of heavy fog
softly dividing the two elements

fossicking around in the flea market ......

If you love foraging around in flea markets
you would love this wonderful old place
known to the French as " Les Puces de St-Ouen"
It was featured in the film "Midnight in Paris"
and I SO loved my visit there

a wealth of bric-a-brac
objet d'art - paintings framed in gorgeous
gold antique surrounds - old books - letters - buttons
The stall holders were more than happy
to let me photograph their wares
which of course  - made my day !!

Cats of Rome ......

on a recent stay in the ancient city of Rome
I became well acquainted with some of the "Cats of Rome"
They make their home amid the temple ruins
where Caesar was betrayed and killed way back in 44 BCE
*******
Each day "The Gattare" a group of cat-lovers
feed and care for these fortunate felines
and so it is no surprise to find that many of them are
extremely friendly very plump and more than happy to
pose for this photographer

" life is like a carousel - sometimes you're up
and sometimes you're down
and sometimes you just go round and round"

This lovely carousel is situated in front of the elegant Hotel d'Ville
and no matter what the weather,  it is always there
I love the music - the colours
and the atmosphere it creates

skywatching over Paris ......

skies aren't always blue over Paris
in fact out of the many times I have visited
they are usually a light blue/grey which is the perfect backdrop
to this city's wonderful golden architecture
and terra-cotta chimney pots

Costes Roses ......

~   Costes Roses   ~

walking down fashionable Rue St-Honore you will pass this wonderful
little florist shop jam packed with nothing but roses
with their wonderful perfume wafting out the door

No fillers to plump out these lavish bunches just
roses - roses - roses

Each time I visit Paris I pop my head in the door and tell the stylish Monsieur
in faulting French  - that he has the prettiest florist-shop in all of Paris
he always smiles sweetly and says
Oh! Merci Madame

reflecting hues of purple ......

This pic was taken last spring in the beautiful water-lily pond
at Monet's Jardin de Giverny - my third visit to the garden
and a perfect time to see the wisteria in full bloom.

A friend and I travelled by train from Paris leaving Gare St-Lazare
where Monet painted that wonderful canvas of stream trains arriving at the station
We breakfasted on croissants and café crème then enjoyed the vista
from our carriage window - the very same vista that Monet and his family
would have viewed on their many trips between Giverny and Paris

It's sometimes difficult to take pics of this beautiful area
without the inclusion of hoards of tourists and buses
but by walking back along the marshes and clambering over a rusty fence
I managed this shot with reflections
