we must carry it with us or we find it not

slippery slopes ......

wet and steep steps make for a very slippery slope
but never-the -less this wonderful little lane-way
in the medieval village of Beynac France was not to be missed.
Juggling umbrella in one hand and camera in the other
I managed to step my way from Chateau at top
to village at bottom with out any mishaps.
many movies have been filmed in this quaint village
including parts of that lovely movie "Chocolat"

shuttered windows ....

Paris is full of pretty shuttered windows
sometimes freshly painted and draped with climbing roses or wisteria
other-times scruffy rusted and battered by the elements
but I love them all

along the back-roads of Montmartre

Windy Day at St-Malo ....

windy on the beach but beautiful blue skies overhead
I spotted these two cute French enfants having fun
decked out in spray-jackets and galoshes
even though it was blowing a gale

Pitchers of Rose and Wild Plums .........

  Sarlat   Dordogne France   ~
just a few snippets from one of my favourite areas of La Belle France
Sarlat is a medieval town where you feel like you've stepped back in time
but is jam-packed with the most amazing laneways courtyards
coffee shops and eateries of every description
the wild plum had fallen from an old tree onto the cobbled pathway
and looked so pretty with a few raindrops sitting atop
and of course beautifully locally crafted pitchers
and decorative signage are everywhere to be seen

along the boulevards ......

~   Avenue Kleber   Paris  ~
pretty wrought-iron balconies with white shuttered windows
add charm to the many buildings that line long sweeping boulevards
in central Paris
whether from the inside looking out or looking up while sipping
café crème at an eatery below  - it's always a view to delight
and I can't help wondering what it would be like to live
right there in the middle of this beautiful city of light and love

soft skies over paris .....

~ Luxembourg Gardens   ~
washed gravel paths and pretty laid out gardens around the main pond
predominantly in shades of yellow or should I say more lemon than yellow
framed by soft blue/grey Parisian skies
I think of how Ernest Hemingway who lived nearby
loved to walk in these gardens to clear his mind
before settling down to a good days writing

skies are not always blue .....

~   Luxembourg Gardens   ~
"It was a grey day, that least fleshly of all weathers
a day of dreams and far hopes and clear visions"

is still better than a wander anywhere else

a walk in the mist .......

~   Aquitaine / Dordogne France   ~
A misty day with grey skies didn't detract
from the beauty of this lovely area
however damp steep cobbled lane-ways made for slow progress

looking sky-wards .......

looking sky-wards in Paris brings with it the most wonderful rewards
soft powder-blue skies framing exquisite lights and lanterns
across bridges along avenues and of course
dotted on each and every historic structure
"A delight to my eyes"

artisan boulanger .......

~ medieval hilltop village of  Vence    ~
cobbled twisting laneway in the alpes-maritimes area of southern France
I've posted both pics because although I think the top pic is better photographically
the bottom capture gives a better sense of perspective
I lost myself many times while staying in this village but in doing so
found the most wonderful little areas and artisan workshops
that otherwise would have been missed
thankfully I always took my camera with me !!

Le Petit Crillon .........

~   Crillon-le-Brave  Vaucluse  Provence Alpes   ~
we had walked  from the village of Caromb via Modene
Slowly up through country lanes bordered with vineyards
that seemed to go on forever
thinking of lunch  -  baguette - fromage - jambon
and perhaps a glass of something red and local
But alas on reaching the top
the little eatery was closed for the day
It was Monday and of course the signage
out front read
"Ferme le Lundi"

fit for a king ......

this wonderful old patisserie on Rue Montorgueil
was started way back in 1730 and is the
"oldest patisserie in Paris"
Nicolas Stohrer was official baker to the King Louis xv
now that's as good as it gets!!

without a doubt I think the products here
are the finest in all of France
however you will need to take much cash
or a well loaded credit card!!
Don't forget to look up to admire the wonderful murals and frescoes
painted by the artist Paul-Jacques-Baudy
the same artist who painted the ceiling in the grand-foyer
of the Paris Opera House

une fleur en liberte .........

although I've been learning French for a while
I still don't quite understand the meaning of this signage
amid a lovely display of flowers out-front of a small florist shop
did it mean that passers-by could take a flower ??
What-ever the meaning it was a beautiful display

has waken for the day when one can slowly meander
the cobbled back-roads - soaking up the ambiance
of a bygone era when artists, poets and musicians
succumbed to the lure of this lively neighbourhood

is the very quaint Ile Saint-Louis
just as if some-one dropped a petit French village
frozen in time -  into the centre of Paris
Cremeries - Creperies - Bistros
 and pretty little boutiques

Stripes .........

 Palais Royal  Paris   ~
Daniel Buren's "Les Deux Plateaux"
Daniel loved black and white stripes and he painted them everywhere in Paris
on sides of buildings - trams - buses - billboards and wherever he could find a space
but this was his first ever authorized work completed in the mid 1960's
and kids have been loving it ever-since

tailors, cobblers and booksellers .....

~   Galeries Vivienne   ~
one of my most favourite covered passages in Paris
with it's elegant canopy plus mosaics, paintings
and sculptures at every turn
I often pause for café crème in one of the busy eateries
and enjoy the decadence and opulence
of this unique galerie

apart from just sitting and enjoying
there are wonderful boutiques to be to be found
tailors - cobblers -  booksellers
and a lovely hairdressers where I feel quite confident
to have my haircut ..... and am treated in the best of French style
