More Strolling Around Le Pere Lachaise....

This is the far end which is backed onto the previous site I showed you

It was quite emotional with other people bringing little posies of flowers
She has certainly not been forgotten

Other nearby sites
and as you can see it is very hilly

Beautiful Monaco #2

Monaco is gearing up for the F1 Grand Prix to be held this week-end
when every square inch of accomodation will be booked up and ready
for the world renown event.

Recently I showed you the photo  here  looking down over Port Hercule
  Today's photo is taken from the same spot
but looking back over the rooftops of Monaco.

Can you imagine the eclectic mix of the worlds rich and famous
who will all congregate in this principality at one time
I have it on good authority that
the terrace of Le Café de Paris Monte Carlo
is the place to be for people watching

Le Plus Beau Pont de Paris.......

I love the bridges of Paris each with their individual character
and style - but if I had to choose a favourite
it would be elegant Pont Alexandre 111.

Strolling across from Left to right bank
or viewing it from the Bato-bus on the river
it's always a delight

Vieux Port De Cannes.......

Looking down on the old Harbour from the narrow winding Rue Saint-Antoine
which leads up to "Le Suquet" the quaint historic heart of Cannes
where the castle and city wall date from the 12th century
.
I hopped aboard Le petit- train in glitzy downtown La-Croisette
and within a few minutes chugged along the streets to this
wonderful old village - just like stepping back in time! 

A Side Step Into Tuscany....

There's something magical about rustic tuscan homes
with their peeling walls of ochre and terra cotta
with golden timbered doors - olive green shutters
and pots of geraniums spilling out from every nook and cranny.
Of course to complete the setting, an Andre Bocelli /Sarah Brightman
 Cd softly playing " Con Te Partiro" (Time to say Goodbye) in the background.

I could spend a long time under the Tuscan sun.

Chimney Pots, Mansard Roofs and Balconies

There's something wonderful about looking out across the rooftops of Paris
with it's mass of deep grey mansard roofs, terracotta chimney pots
and decorative ironwork balconies
.
I think of the multitude of students living in
Chambre-de-Bonne roof-top studios.
I think of the everyday Parisian who lives, works and breathes
in this amazing city with it's love of beauty and attention to detail .
I think of the many artisan work-shops
patissiers - chocolatiers - fashion designers- fleuristes
parfumeurs - boulangers.
composers - writers - artists - photographers
All trying their very best to get it right.

La Tour Eiffel.....

~ The tallest and most beautiful  building in Paris ~

I know many a photograph has been taken of this iconic tower
but today I decided to post this elegant lady in black and white
with a slight softening around the edges

Quai de MonteBello.....

                                       and to right - the back end of Notre Dame Cathedral.

Strolling up the Avenue...

Le Fouquet's on Avenue Champs Elysées

 Avenue Des Champs Elysées is know as "La plus belle Avenue du Monde"
and I would have to agree it has that touch of class and panache.

Le Fouquet's at number 99 is a landmark historic restaurant
with it's red awnings, flowerpots and distinctive building facade
which has often featured in French movies.
It has stood on this prime location for over 200 years.

I particularly loved the detail above the doorways
truly a work of art!

Beautiful Monaco....

The climb from Port Hercule up to Le Rocher is worth every huff and puff!
I nearly turned back several times but the views from the top were just stunning
This is multi-million dollar paradise and it shows.

Buskers play Mozart......

 Buskers playing a beautiful rendition of a piece by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
in the shadow of L'Eglise Saint Eustache .
 A magnificent gothic gem situated at the southern end of
Rue Montorgueil in the 1st arrondissment.

I later learned that the funeral of Mozart's Mother took place in this church

Walking through vines in the Vaucluse.........

 Modѐne Village    Vaucluse

Looking across vineyards to the pretty picturesque
hill-top village of Crillon-le-Brave
and in the far distance Mont Ventoux
commonly know as "The Giant of Provence"
made legendary as one of the most gruelling climbs in the Tour- De- France.
In 1967 British cyclist Tom Simpson sadly died here from heat exhaustion
whilst competing in the event and there is now a memorial
to him near the summit
