Exquisite South Rose Window........

This magnificent South Rose Window
in the Notre Dame Cathederal Paris
was a gift from King Saint-Louis.
It was originally installed in circa 1260
Now that's a long time ago!!!

It remains today ever so beautiful with it's
superb colourings predominately in the blue tonings

The exterior of the window with delicate fine stone tracery.

Notre Dame is said to be France's most visited monument,
with over 13 million visitors each year

Notre Dame, Chartres, Amiens, Rouen, Beauvais and Reims are all quite splendid.

The stained glass in Chartres is unbelievable as is the incredible feeling of really being in a house of God.

Amiens unfortunately, was so heavily bombed in WWII, that not much of the original has remained although it has been restored to the old plans.

Rouen had it's wonderful windows destroyed.

It is disheartening how much history, not just life, is lost in wars.

Arija - how tragic when history like that is lost - a lot of it irreplaceable

Notre Dame is beautiful but have you seen the cathedral at Reims? This is the most stunning place I have ever seen; see the post on my blog. Sadly I had an old camera when I took the photos and they were not the best. http://lifeincharente.blogspot.com/search?q=reims Diane

Diane:- yes found that post - the stained glass windows are just magnificent - the exterior of the building is very similar to Notre dame paris but the interior very different - I love it

Beautifully photographed, Dianne. The exterior shot is taken from a great vantage point with the full view of the buttresses.

Very nice!
