Though we travel the world to find the beautiful

we must carry it with us or we find it not

Avenue Montaigne......and the "House of Dior"

Wishing you all a very safe and healthy 2012

I am re-posting one of my earliest "All Things French" posts
which reminds me of my first ever visit to the elegant "House of Dior" and the
trepidation I felt on that day - it was the start of my love affair with that
    wonderful city called Paris

I look forward to revisiting you all in the New Year
A Bientot  xxx

~Avenue Montaigne ~

How I love the sheer elegance and style of this fabulous Avenue
running right off the Champs Elysee ~ lined from end to end with a who's~ who list of labels
Dior - Chanel - Nina Ricci - Bvlgari ~ Prada

On my very first holiday in Paris I walked down this fabulous street feeling very apprehensive
I had dressed in what I thought appropriate for the day
(Black tailored pants - black roll neck skivvy - black stilettos - with chunky gold jewellry and of course Big fashion sunglasses ) on arrival I suddenly felt very inferior very out-of-place.

I looked across the street to see a big limousine pull up at the entrance to"Christian Dior " and amid a flurry of activity betwixt chauffeur and Concierge a tres elegant lady entered through the beautiful glass doors - I had fully intended to visit Dior - I went through the mind set - They don't know who I am and if I'm refused entry does it really matter in the big picture! So I crossed the street and walked up to the glass doors - the gorgeous concierge smiled, opened the doors and ushered me in - I was totally awe-struck - it spoke of everything luxurious, opulent and feminine- An assistant asked if I would like a little spitz of perfume - bien sur!! I chose -Miss Dior Cherie - and have loved this perfume ever since.

The intimate boutique- as one first enters- has on display perfumes - gorgeous scarves- belts and many other beautiful accessories - I would have to say I was treated very respectfully and left the shop with a warm heart and a spring in my step .
Now onto Chanel and Bvlgari and Nina Ricci...... !!

A Blogger Break.......

It has been almost 2years since I commenced my blog-site
"All Things French"
with much encouragment from my niece who helped me set it up .
I remember thinking at the time that no one would want to
see my photos and I was so delighted when I received  2 comments
for my very first post on "Maison Stohrer"
Because my photos pool is running low -I have decided to take a break until early next year when
all being well I will return to La Belle France with my camera in tow.
Thank you all for the encouragement and kindness you have given me along the way
it has been a delightful journey!

Merci et Au Revoir

If you have the time I would love you to visit my other site

Les Fleurs Dans Les Rues.........

Fleurs trailing from pretty window boxes
ironcast lanterns  - scrolled signage
and cobbled alleyways
all an integral part of that quaint old area
known as Montmartre

Lunch at La Maison d'Eugѐne........

Lunch in Provence is one of those things that everybody should do in their life-time
there's nothing else that quite compares to this experience
and especially, if like me -  you love good food!
This little Salon de thé  served a  wonderful lunch
under a charming chesnut tree in the hilltop village of Le Barroux
Now that's as good as it gets!

Our delightful French host prepared and served our meal
salade composѐe
followed by tarte tartin
locally grown apricots and figs
and freshly brewed coffee
and then was more than happy for me to take her photo

Merci Beaucoup Madame!

Tourettes Sur Loup.......

~ Tourettes-Sur-Loup ~

I set out early one morning on the local bus from Vence in the hills behind the Cote d'azure
with a plan to visit the wonderful city of Grasse and go dab dabbing
in the prestigious perfume houses of Fragonard Molinard and Gallinard
Along the way I stopped for lunch at this delightful little medieval village
with the wonderful name of Tourrettes-Sur-Loup

It wasn't long before the heavens opened and in the deluge
I missed my connecting bus to Grasse !!
no ~Molinard de Moulinard~ pour moi

This is one of the few pics I managed to take while the sun was still smiling
I must go back!

Parisian Reflections........

I've shown you this pic before taken on entering that wonderful
foodie heaven on Rue Montorgueil
La Maison Stohrer
(it's one of my favourites)

A mish-mash of reflections showing
macarons - bottles of rose - signage - les fleurs
all the glitz and glamour of Paris' oldest bakery.

A Splash Of Red......

~ Plaza Athenee     Avenue Montaigne ~

Signature red awnings and red geraniums trailing over
delicate lace ironwork balconies
Red - Red - Red
or as the French would say
La Belle Rouge!

I love catching the splash of red amongst
the rich green of the chesnut trees

At The Break Of Day..........

Streets swept and washed down
the lamp in the workshop glows telling me
the boulangere is hard at work
creating wonderful delicacies
for le-petit-dejeuner

Early morning in Provence is beautiful!

Le Clos de Montmartre.......

Too early for the vendage!
this beautifully kept vineyard is a  parcel of land sloping down to
Rue St Vincent in what is known as the old Montmartre

I loved looking across to the little three storied cottage
and imagining Maurice Urtillo sitting at the window
planning his next sketch of this bohemian neighborhood
or maybe Pierre Renoir - paint brush in hand -
putting the finishing touches to his  "Bal au Moulin de la Galette"
or maybe even Pablo Picasso industriously working at his easel
with one eye looking out onto - Au Lapin Agile - right next door.

Some-times in Paris it's as if time has stood still!

Holiday Snaps.......

Just sharing a few snaps from my recent holiday
in Palm Cove which is situated in far north Queensland
I hope you like them!

Beautiful golden sandy beaches

And for special occasions
you could dine under the palms

This gorgeous white chapel situated right on the beach
was the ideal location for small weddings
I couldn't help but take a peek through the windows!

Sunrise over the Coral Sea
Very early in the morning was the prettiest
time on the beach

Lots of walking tracks!

Red Carpet in Reflection......

Home to the Cannes Film Festival
the most prestigious film festival in the world
and in reflection you can see that wonderful red carpet
where the rich and famous strut their stuff.
Think George Clooney - Juliette Binoche -Robert-De-Niro

I walked the carpet many times just hoping that maybe
I stepped exactly where Richard Gere had stepped

In The Pink............

Au Lapin Agile ~

I have shared with you before the joy in strolling the cobble-stoned
back streets of Montmartre - far away from the maddening crowds
These two cabaret / restaurants are within walking distance
of each other and both painted in would you believe it -  pink!!

Both quintessential Montmartre bistros and both in their
hey-day frequented by such artists as
Renoir - Toulouse- Lautrec - Picasso and Maurice Utrillo

Provence - silk painting.....

Looking towards  Mount Ventoux in the Luberon

I thought I would share with you this delightful silk painting
spotted at a village market in Provence.
The square could be purchased and used as a scarve
or just left on the mount and hung on a wall.

 The colours were so vibrant
and aptly depicted -  this beautiful area of the Luberon!

Ambiance De Brocante.......

I like nothing better than fossicking around in
 cluttered French provincial style shops
Whether it be bric-ẚ- brac or brocante

jugs - bowls - pots - books - linen
